Five days after Hurricane Melissa pummelled into the island's west coast with historic intensity, locals in affected areas in coastal zones are persistently anticipating for assistance.

Numerous thoroughfares are blocked by debris and communities are stranded with limited provisions, lacking utilities, and uncertainty about recovery timelines.

Growing Fatalities

Authorities confirmed on recently that no fewer than 28 individuals in Jamaica have died since the hurricane hit as a devastating Category 5 hurricane with winds reaching 185 mph.

That is a near 50% jump in the casualty count recently, and totals might grow as officials clear their way into new parts of the island in the next few days.

Farming Consequences

It is the same tone demonstrated by Oreth Jones, located in his transport distributing salvaged crops – the last of his produce that was protected from the hurricane.

Concerning his cultivation area, he said: "Total devastation occurred. Complete demolition happened" But he immediately added: "We have to give God thanks we're alive"

International Assistance

Concurrently, foreign aid has now started entering into Jamaica.

United States officials declared that its Disaster Assistance Response Team had made entry. And countries including the UK have also promised significant monetary support and emergency supplies.
