Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Versus the Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first championship series following the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.
Behind three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, the city, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for twenty-three post-season home runs, making him third all-time behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I'd prefer in that spot other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but commended their work in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
