Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder

The striker has joined Sheffield United just seven months following starting insulting taunts aimed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement joining the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year time with Leeds concluded by mutual consent in August.

One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull the team he loves out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder

Both men had history before Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything seems to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Struggles

Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
