A Greater Manchester team fields an amateur vets team with nine ex- top-flight players in their current roster.

Two Hundred Twenty-Two Top Division Scores, 325 Global Appearances

The team Vets Over 35s are based in southern the city and compete in the Cheshire-based Vets Division Premier Division.

Their squad list this season includes 9 ex- top-flight players, with a collective nearly 1,800 elite games.

This high-profile squad also contains over 220 top division goals and over 320 global appearances.

The squad include Papiss Cisse, who netted 37 scores in 117 appearances for his former club after signing for them for £9m from German league club SC Freiburg in 2012.

Cisse had his first appearance for the team in their most recent home match against reigning champions their rivals and scored all six scores in a six-two victory - featuring a 32-minute first-half triple.

Wythenshawe's squad for this season also features former pros such as England and Anfield forward Emile Heskey, Hull and Burnley FC midfielder George Boyd, Everton striker Oumar Niasse, Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa, City duo Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and top-flight championship winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Together, the former Premier League players have secured 15 major trophies and transferred for combined transfer sums of approximately £123m.

Well-Known Names and Global Players

Stephen Ireland began turning out for the team in preseason this season through close mate and current team player Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish midfielder then asked additional ex-pros, who all play in a weekly small-sided game, to join in.

Ex- Senegal forward Oumar Niasse, who netted twelve scores in sixty-five top-flight matches for Everton and still attends their home games, also made his first appearance against Collegiate OB - who are based in Liverpool and use an Everton training kit as their uniform.

"My friend Stephen told me 'come and have a game, it's a laugh'," commented the striker.

"After that he informed me we were facing a side from Liverpool and the shock I had when I noticed them sporting Blue shirts - I thought this is wrong for me!

"If you still love football and you know you can still play, anywhere you can kick a ball, what are you going to do?

"The spectators who turn up and see are happy and to give a moment if they watch us competing there and to pose us queries - it's more like the pleasure of us having somewhere we can play, with organisation of course."

Such is the squad depth at the club, Niasse had his debut at defender.

"That's a little unusual but then, I love sprinting and just move inside - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"That running is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

Unreal Experience

Along with the forward's 6 scores on debut, Ireland has scored eight in three games for Wythenshawe, while Boyd hit 5 on his first match and Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a triple in one game up front.

Wythenshawe are leading of the Premier Division with 3 victories from three and a goal difference of +19.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who plays on the wing for Collegiate OB, faced former Wigan full-back Figueroa on Sunday - and had to tell his nine-year-old son who Emile Heskey was.

He has appeared at two global tournaments for his country, in as well as featuring in over 200 Premier League matches.

"The news was spreading like a rumor they had these former top-flight players," remarked the player.

"I felt I was a bit awestruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Even Emile [Heskey] got on and he's got 60-odd English appearances.

"We held our own for a solid twenty mins but then we had a man dismissed and it was hard.

"Our group really haven't stopped talking about it - I was calling my mum and sibling on the way home.

"The opponents were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a group of regular fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second match."
