Followers Demand Detainment of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the actress are demanding that a man who jumped a barrier and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account contains videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Numerous followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more response on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some requested digital services to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film version of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely friendship between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, winning several for best costume and set decoration.
