Eulogies Flow for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones persist in remembering the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he finally felt able to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has passed that I can now articulate my loss into words," posted Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started passing more hours together I knew this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, adding that he could not remember "a single day without laughter".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He concluded with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a different tribute, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with everyone, and he grasped the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles judge ruled to prevent the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate placed a security hold on the files to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" associated with the probe.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a record noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Fallout and Commentary
After the killings, public individuals offered different reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making divisive claims that were widely condemned by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the detractors last week. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the comments as "disturbing" and suggested they showed a worrisome lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an associate should have intervened when the choice to speak on the tragedy was made.
