Devastating Update on UPS Accident: Death Toll Increases to 13

The tally of fatalities due to the transport jet which ignited and went down has risen to 13, per recent statements.

Mayor's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I learned of a thirteenth victim that died as a result of the plane incident,” expressed the city mayor in a social media post. “My prayers are with the families, companions and colleagues of all who were lost in this week’s tragedy. We will endure this together.”

Casualties Confirmed

An announcement from the carrier named the flight crew operating the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to each employee who has been impacted and everyone in our local community – helping you and making sure you get the care and aid you need is our priority,” the company’s statement stated.

Inquiry Findings

Federal officials disclosed that the freight aircraft’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine separated just after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, causing the plane to plummet and erupt into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is examining the plane’s maintenance history, which was in Texas for fixes weeks before the crash.

Aviation information revealed the jet was on the ground in the Texas city from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are knowledgeable that this plane was located in that city,” remarked an NTSB member on later, not giving a exact period. “We will look at each aspect of service that was performed, from the repair period, right up to the day of the journey.”

Retrieval of Vital Components

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were retrieved, and the power plant was found on the runway.

The devices – called data containers – were built to withstand crash impacts and severe fire from blazes, and they looked to be undamaged when discovered within the wreckage. Investigators will analyzing recordings from the devices.

Jet’s concluding data recordings showed an elevation of that level and a speed of 210 mph before the accident.

Maintenance History

Based on Federal Aviation Administration files from that date, a fracture on a structural piece inside the fuel container required fixes.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it offers airframe maintenance for the carrier’s MD-11 and operates a repair facility in San Antonio, refused to speak, but expressed it would assist completely when relevant authorities contacted it.

Operations Restart

In the meantime, UPS Worldport operations continued that evening with its Next Day Air also known as evening operation, spokesperson Jim Mayer stated. All three runways at the aviation hub were also back in operation.

The sorting center in Louisville is the company’s most significant. The facility hires more than 20,000 workers in the locality, handles numerous trips each day and processes more than 400,000 items per hour.

Community Response

A memorial was organized on the night of 6 November by the local worker’s group, which supports staff at the airfield, the organization’s largest shipping facility.

The union chapter, which supports employees, began the vigil with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the rough time of the incident two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so unexpected, so surprising,” the leader addressed the crowd of two hundred. “No one had a chance to part to each of those who we have lost.”
