Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland has passed away at the age of 24.

The Cowboys selected the Cowboys in the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft and appeared in 18 games for the team, including four starts.

He recorded his initial touchdown in Tuesday's defeat to the Arizona Cardinals when he retrieved a blocked punt.

"Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys said.

"Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his partner Catalina and his family."

Kneeland was selected by Dallas with the 56th selection of the 2024 NFL Draft after his college career for Western Michigan.

His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart aches" for the loss of the athlete who "gave his all" into each opportunity.

"I watched him fight his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a goal to being a esteemed pro for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley said.

The NFL stated it is "profoundly grieved" by the tragic event.
