A Ton of Anime News Arrived Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and using deep breathing to avoid snapping at relatives. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items came out during the break, and should you missed any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking announcement, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt more episodes. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio renowned for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Right after the release of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has yet to be revealed.
